How do I choose and age group to work with?
You may already have a preference which age you prefer, for example if you have just left Guides and really enjoyed it you may want to go back to help. If you don’t have a preference then think about what times the different ages meet and how long meetings last. It’s best to find a unit around your hours so you don’t have to miss too many meetings due to schoolwork or other clubs.
How do I find a unit to work with?
Use the enquiry form to the left and we’ll get back to you. It is best to be flexible when looking for a unit as the one you want to join may already have enough Young Leaders. In the form, let us know what section you would prefer to work with.
What do I have to do?
Well that depends on what you would like to do. This greatly varies between units depends on how much help they have. Some Young Leaders just turn up every week helping out where needed. Whilst other enjoy running games, organising crafts, helping organise fun days and events.
Can I take part in fun days and holidays?

Yes! Even if your unit does not do them, others units and the district are happy for you to help at their events. If you would like to help organise it then let your leader know. It could be something as simple as running the games for girls who have finished or bringing a craft down. At these events leaders will often let you have some time to go round and make things for yourself as they know its half the fun.
Do I have to do any training’s?
You can choose to go to as many of few trainings as you like, they are often something else to add to your CV! You are welcome to the same training’s as leaders, there are also separate trainings for Senior Section members. Trainings vary from the essential first aid and child protection to fun days where you get to make crafts and take part in activities and singing, with the basis that you’ll be able to take these ideas back to your unit.
What qualifications can I work on?
There are too many qualifications to list them all here. From badges done in a week to longer term projects that can be done over a number of years. Also, there is a Young Leader qualification, this enables you to work towards developing your leadership skills. Some of the qualification transfers across to the adult leadership course, if you decide to become a leader when you turn 18.
